Salakhova Aidan

1964

Russian artist and gallery owner. Born in 1964 in Moscow. In 1987 she graduated from the Surikov Art Institute, and in 2000 she began her teaching there. Academician of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. Member of the USSR Union of Artists since 1988. Works with photography, video, painting and sculpture. Salakhova is interested in the historical and cultural interaction of the East and the West: issues of prohibitions, esotericism and traditions. In her works she has repeatedly addressed the topic of masculine and feminine in the context of Islam. The artist actively uses oriental ornaments and mature black and white colors. Salakhova spends a lot of time in his Italian studio in Carrara, where she creates marble sculptures.

Salakhova's works are in private and public collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, the Francois Pinault Foundation, the Teutloff Museum. In 1991 and 2011 she participated in the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, and in Moscow Biennale in 2007. Her solo shows were presented by major institutions and galleries: the Moscow Museum of Modern Art in 2012, Quadro Fine Art Gallery, Dubai in 2013, Saatchi Gallery, London in 2016.
