Someone else's house

Ekaterina Rozhkova

On December 1, 2022, the Circulation 1/1 collection art gallery opened a personal exhibition of Ekaterina Rozhkova "Alien House". As part of the project, the artist's paintings and graphics are shown, dedicated to understanding and searching for a person's place in the world, both external and internal. The environment in the works of Ekaterina Rozhkova is perceived not as an objectively existing reality, but as a subjectively experienced state. The master, as it were, shifts the accents from high technological skill towards sensory perception, a meditative component, where something more is hidden behind sadness. This ability to convey more is an elusive feature of Ekaterina Rozhkova's work. “Alien house? Alien day or shadow? Knots - a trace from the hands. Carefully assembled as best he can Katya Rozhkova. Motherly tightly swaddled meanings, images and experiences. Everything is mastered and assigned. Everything wears out and wears out. Alien house.. The wind blowing on the back of this long-loved dog. Like us, she wanders, but this is not “past”, not transit, not “passing”. This is a direct hit. Every time. To yourself. In "here and now". This is her Rozhkov atlas of the world. Small or big, it doesn't matter. Atlas of the big world. It is always caring and emotional. With tactful confusion, a deliberate lagging behind herself. And, as in any atlas, before moving on, you need to find the point of your location. What a pity that we are immortal for such a short time. Let's go." Daria Khubatova Ekaterina Rozhkova was born in 1969 in Moscow in the family of a diplomat and theater critic. In 1992 she graduated from the production department of VGIK. From 1994 to 1996 she trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Tokyo. Japan taught her plotless painting, careful study of the details of the drawing, monochrome coloring, and work with texture. Ekaterina hardly depicts people, she prefers to study the objective world that surrounds them - her series of works consist of images of simple things: plates, clothes, architectural forms. Ekaterina is interested in making large, well-thought-out series. Serialization was probably introduced by the VGIK school, it is more convenient for it to think in terms of storyboards. Ekaterina is a regular participant of international fairs, biennials and festivals, including Art Miami, The Armory Show and ARCO. Her works are in the collections of the Russian Museum, the Novosibirsk State Art Museum, the Surgut Art Gallery, the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, MMSI, ABN AMRO Bank, Petrocommerce Bank, Fleming Bank (London), as well as in private collections in Russia, Estonia, Japan, Switzerland , Spain, Germany, France, Israel, UK, USA.
